Creating a Beautiful Bedroom that is Perfect for Guests
Creating a Beautiful Bedroom that is Perfect for Guests
With a few easy steps I was able to create a beautiful bedroom that is perfect for guests. I have a perfect bedroom for guests. It's a great size, has a walk in closet and adjoining bathroom but was in need of a little sprucing up.
It's a bright room but I was ready to lighten it up with paint. Add a few unique decor pieces and lighting.
Creating a Grid Accent Wall
- Step 1 Create a beautiful grid accent wall
Creating a unique and perfect for the space accent wall was the first thing we did. It's not a hard project and pretty inexpensive because it doesn't require a lot of wood.
It's one of my favorite accent walls we've created. You can check out the steps to creating a grid accent wall Here. The grid wall we created not only looks amazing but it is inexpensive and not to hard to build. The trickiest part is doing the math to figure out the dimensions.
The formula is take the width of the space. Minus the width of all the trim boards you are using. Divide by how may openings you want. This will give you the interior dimensions.
For example if your wall is 12' and you're using 6 3 1/2" boards and you want 5 openings it would look like this.
144" minus 21" (total board width) divided by 5 = 24 1/2 " openings
It is worth figuring it out and checking your measurements. The result is pretty incredible.
Making over Furniture Pieces
- Step 2 Makeover some second hand furniture pieces
To create a beautiful bedroom that is perfect for guest required some furniture makeovers. The space had a great dresser that I'd redone years ago. It still looked great and I loved the way it looked with the newly painted walls and bedding. It didn't need anything but I didn't have nightstands for the space so I went looking at Goodwill and Deseret Industries for some perfect nightstands.
On two separate trips I found matching nightstands that were perfect. Not only did they refinish perfectly they look amazing in the space. You can see the steps I took to create these beautiful nightstand Here. It was great luck to find matching nightstands on different days at Deseret Industries. They are wood and turned out so cute. I love everything about them. It was worth the work sanding, staining, painting these nightstands. The key element was cute glass knobs.
Paint the Walls for a Beautiful Update
- Step 3 Give the space a fresh coat of paint
I liked the paint color in the room. It looks so good with the bedding that I've had for years and still love so much. But I was wanting to brighten up the space and make it a little more monochromatic. So I painted three walls in the guest bedroom the same color as the trim and doors. Because I was still loving the grid accent wall color I left it the Bennington Gray Color. Then lightened up the rest of the room with Dover White.
Lightening up the room made such a difference. I can not believe how much brighter this room looks. Paint is pretty magical. It is an inexpensive way to improve the look of the space. I don't know of another way that changes the look of a space for so little. If you are tired of an area and don't have a lot of money consider changing the space with paint.
I have had super dark walls that I loved and I'm now loving this lighter and brighter look. The thing about paint is you haven't invested a lot so if you get tired of it quickly it's easy to change.
You can see the steps taken to paint this space Here.
Finding Beautiful Decor that will be Perfect for Guests
- Step 4 Adding beautiful decor piece to the space
The grid wall is done, the nightstands are updated and the walls are painted. I'm now ready to create some beauty with gorgeous decor.
I found the perfect lamps for the space at World Market. Check them out Here. I love these gorgeous lights so much. I did purchase a swag light kit and plant hangers to hang the lamps. It took a minute to find everything I needed. I purchased a couple plant hangers from Home Depot but they were not long enough. The light hit the wall and didn't look right. The next size they had was too long and looked big and bulky so I resorted to Amazon. I don't love shopping on Amazon I'd rather support a small business because I am a small business but it's nice to find exactly what you need while sitting at your desk.
They are the perfect addition to the space. Not only do they look amazing but they are perfect for guests to use while they visit.
The Beautiful Guest Bathroom
Having an adjoining guest bathroom makes this an amazing space for guest to come and stay awhile. I took some time to update the guest bathroom earlier. You can check out the updates Here and Here and Here.
We added some board and batten, beautiful peel and stick wallpaper, a beautiful shower niche and perfect for the space decor.
Updating the guest bathroom made it more welcoming and a great space for guests. Whether they stay over night or several days. It makes for a very comfortable space.
When I get a new space refinished and love it as much as I love this space I will walk into it over and over just to enjoy the look. This is now one of my favorite rooms in the house that is anxiously awaiting guests to arrive.
